Selected works from Peter's residence in Columbia County, NY. During that time, Peter was creating smaller works that were marketed at high-end craft fairs and shops.

Student Work
Selected work from Peter's studies at the School for American Craftsmen (later renamed the School for American Crafts) at the Rochester Institute of Technology, with master craftsmen Wendell Castle and Bill Keyser. Peter's Bachelors thesis investigated anatomical forms as design elements, as these sculptures so clearly illustrate. The table and chairs were an investigation of the technique of "coopering" to create forms that are ribbon-like.
1967. Walnut, oil finish. 10"h X 8 1/2" w X 14" d. Both the Nose and Ear Cabinet were created at the end of Peter's junior year at RIT. They both were designed to investigate the use of body parts as practical drawer and door pulls.

1967. Walnut and fiberglass. Oil finish. 70" h X 18" w X 24" d. The translucent egg shade was created using a large balloon and laminating fiberglass strips around it. The cord runs through the center of the rear leg.

1968. Honduras mahogany. Oil finish. 38" h X 20" w X 14" d. Peter couldn't resist playing on a pun by creating this humorous piece.

1966. Cherry. 26"w X 22" d X 59" h. This chair was the last of the student works that were executed using only hand tools, and the first using the technique of coopering.

1968. Walnut and fur. Following the lead of Wendel Castle, this stack-laminated form started Peter's senior thesis works.

1968 Cherry with shaggy shearling upholstery. Oil finish. 5'h X 30" w X 36" d. Sold with stool (not pictured). This, the largest of Peter's stack-laminated creatures, surrounds and comforts whoever sits in it.
